Native Lorain authors team up for book signings June 13
As 12-year-old friends, they walked along Lorain’s scenic mile-long pier for serenity as they sang together, not knowing they’d be future authors doing book signings together locally, and nationally.
Shonda Thompson and Rachel Bennett Steury were in seventh grade at Longfellow Middle School when they would sing “you’ve got what I need,” by Biz Markie in his iconic song “Just a Friend.”
Rachel said the song was meant as a bond, because they knew they would be lifetime friends. Both of their back stories are quite a journey to writing their books. article

Kidney been: Altruistic donor hopes her story inspires others
Reviewed by Keith Elchert for the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette
“One in a million” is a cliche, but it precisely suits Rachel Bennett Steury.
Steury’s just-released memoir details her journey as a non-directed kidney donor — someone who gives her organ to an unknown recipient. That makes her one of between 350 and 400 U.S. residents to do so every year.
In a nation of more than 350 million, well — you do the math."

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers?
You just have to start. It won’t be perfect. You might not even form complete sentences. The goal is to get the words out, one after the other. Once you commit to doing that, the editing and perfecting can come in due time. More here.
A big Mahalo to The Star editor Jeff Jones and the KPC News family in Northeast Indiana, who have always been the first to report on the evolution of this story.
